The kitesurfing season in western Sicily officially lasts from April until late October. Lo Stagnone is famous for its exceptional wind statistics, boasting over 300 windy days a year. During late spring and summer (May to September), the wind is heavily boosted by a local thermal effect, delivering steady afternoon breezes perfectly suited for training and freeride sessions.

Lo Stagnone is the largest flat-water lagoon in Europe and is exceptionally safe. The water depth ranges from ankle to waist-deep across almost the entire spot. There are no heavy currents, open-sea waves, or dangerous marine life. If you crash your kite or lose your board, you can simply stand up and walk, making it the ultimate spot for stress-free progression.

The closest airport is Trapani-Birgi Airport (TPS), which is located just a 15-minute drive from our kitesurf school in Marsala. It is heavily operated by budget airlines like Ryanair. Your second option is Palermo Airport (PMO), located roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes away via highway. We highly recommend renting a car at the airport for maximum flexibility during your Sicilian holiday.

Yes, renting a car is highly recommended when visiting Lo Stagnone. While the kite spot is close to Trapani-Birgi airport, public transport around Marsala and the lagoon is very limited. Having a car allows you to easily transport your kite gear, visit local supermarkets, and explore Sicily’s top attractions on no-wind days. You can rent a car directly at Trapani or Palermo airports, or direct from us. We advise booking in advance and checking whether the rental company requires a physical credit card for the security deposit, as this is a standard requirement in Italy.

Clients have access to a private, spacious launch and landing area covered with clean green grass, a shaded chill-out zone with palms, and hot showers. There is a licensed bar/bistro on-site serving fresh Italian espresso and food, as well as secure equipment storage, fresh-water washing stations, and dedicated parking directly at the spot.
